Introduction:
Welcome
to a fun semester in the VISUAL ARTS!!I have had the pleasure of working with
students at GRANT MIDDLE SCHOOL for the past 12 years. I have enjoyed watching
students discover their creative skills while they continue to learn and grow
throughout their experience in ART.
Objective
Students
will be completely immersed into the world of the VISUAL ARTS for 20 weeks!
Students will create several pieces of art to store in a portfolio. Through the art process, students will learn
what it takes to create a successful piece of art. We will be using our
literacy skills when looking at the works of the masters and working artists
today using VISUAL THINKING STRATEGIES.

for consistent communication between parents, teachers, and students.

updates on projects, student accomplishments, featured artist, art activities
to create at home, extra credit opportunities, etc. For the semester, extra credit will be given to any
student who comments on a piece of art on the blog using Visual Thinking Strategies and vocabulary we are learning about in
class.

Grading Breakdown
Each student’s grade will be
determined through use of a project rubric (go to the Art blog to view a sample
project rubric). Grades will be broken down into 3 categories
~Project grade: Projects are
graded according to THE ART RUBRIC. Students will focus on Composition,
Originality, Craftsmanship, and Effort on each major project.

Classroom Behavior Expectations
To be successful in Art, it takes the work and
cooperation of ALL students in the
classroom. Please follow these expectations each day to have a positive art
experience.
*Be Polite: Students must be respectful to the teacher (Alfieri)
and classmates at all times. Treat others the way you would like to be treated.
Students are expected to keep their hands to themselves and on their own
assignments. We are a team and need to work together!
*Be Prepared: Students are expected to bring a PENCIL and an ERASER
each day to class. All other materials will be provided for the student. If a
student forgets a pencil for class, one can be signed and returned before
leaving class. Their grade will be affected if a student consistently is not
prepared.
*Be Productive: All students are expected to put their best efforts
forth in all assignments and projects. The effort put into a project will
affect your final grade. Students are expected to come to Art and Literacy
class each day ready to learn, listen to directions, and use time
constructively.
*Be Prompt: All students must report to class on time. When the
bell rings, student must be in class and seated ready for instruction. If you
are held back by a teacher, students must have a pass from that teacher or they
will be marked tardy on E-school. If a student is consistently late without a
pass, it will affect your final grade in Art and Literacy.

• Call Home
• Administrative Referral (with a
call home)
