Objective
Students will be able to communicate a visual artistic message while incorporating their literacy skills, such as reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Students will work on various projects, activities, and have discussions that will help improve vocabulary, help students express themselves, and develop an understanding for the Visual Arts.

Grading Breakdown
Project Grade:
At the end of each unit, we will complete a project based on our lessons. For each project, the teacher and student will assess their own work based on 4 key components.
• Composition
• Originality
• Craftsmanship
• Effort
After each assignment, the student will grade their own work based on the 4 components to measure their level of success on an evaluation sheet (see back of this page). Student will also view a rubric so that they can understand what I am looking for during each project. I will give them a final grade for each piece and keep a copy so that students and parents can reflect on their assignments.

Visual Thinking Strategies Grade:
Each day, students will receive a grade for completing an assignment called Visual Thinking Strategies. It will give the students an opportunity to look at artwork and talk about what they see. They will improve on vocabulary that not only will help them in the Art classroom, but in their everyday core classes as well (See website: http://www.vtshome.org/ for more information.)

My Expectations for ART and LITEACY
ON TIME:
All students must report to class on time. When the bell rings, student must be in class and seated ready for instruction. If you are held back by a teacher, students must have a pass from that teacher or they will be marked tardy on E-school. If a student is consistently late without a pass, it will affect your final grade in Art and Literacy.

POLITE:

Students must be respectful to teacher and classmates at all times. We are a team and need to cooperate and work together to succeed. It is important to TREAT OTHERS THE WAY YOU WOULD WANT TO BE TREATED. Students must keep their hands to themselves and on their OWN art projects and supplies.

PRODUCTIVE:

All students are expected to put their best efforts forth in all assignments and projects. The effort put into a project will affect your final grade. Students are expected to come to Art and Literacy class each day ready to learn, listen to directions, and use time constructively.

PREPARED:

Students are expected to bring a PENCIL and an ERASER each day to class. All other materials will be provided for the student. If a student forgets a pencil for class, one can be signed and returned before leaving class. Their grade will be affected if a student consistently is not prepared.

Consequences for Inappropriate Behaviors
• First warning
• Second warning
• Time Out with another teacher
• Call Home
• Administrative Referral (with a call home)
